I was out biking a couple of days ago, when I saw this railroad crossing in the distance. As I approached I instantly thought of this assignment, especially after I saw the bridge in the background.
Here is the first one, the centered shot:
Here is the second shot, the third line:
I definitely like the second one better. The centered image seems off balance because of the pointless stuff to the right of the crossing sign. The tracks and the bridge give the illusion of depth, but the field to the right seems very flat and out of place. If I were to keep the centered image I would definitely crop most of the right side. In the "Third Line" image you can see even more of the track which really draws your eye through the photo, and the track and the crossing sign seem more balanced.
I agree that the second one looks better, the placement seems to flow better. The pointless junk does take away from the tracks and the crossing sign, having it in the third of the photo makes it more interesting. Good shot!
ReplyDeleteI too like the second photo better as well. Getting more of the tracks into frame makes the photo feel as if there is more to see and that it continues on. It really draws the eye in rather than the first where it seems almost as if there is too much going on.
ReplyDeleteI like the second one better as well. I like how the clouds go with everything else in the picture. The only problem I see with the second one is the trailer on the right side gets cut off, but other than that, it's a great picture!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that I like the off centered more. I think it works well with how we read about putting a second, less focused on object in the picture. The railroad works really well in the second picture in that sense. I also think the positioning of where the gate intersects with the clouds works better in the second picture.
