Lighting

So, I actually have four images rather than three, I hope that's alright, but there all under different lighting situations.

I work right next to a huge cemetery and I decided it would be really cool to take pictures of a grave stone throughout the day; before I get to work, on my break, and then at night when I leave.  I was just going to pick a random grave stone when I remember a legend I heard as a child, the particular grave I chose has a statue of a lady perched over it; legend has it that if you sit on the lap of the lady you will die.  I thought it would really cool if she was my subject.

It's kind of funny, when I first went to take her picture my camera stopped working, I was mildly freaked out  because I knew the legend of the cursed statue.

Anyway, here they are:

10:30am on an overcast day.

5:30pm sunny.

10pm with flash on

10pm no flash, but I have a friend shining a flashlight

  1. I think my favorite photo is the first one because the light seems more balanced. Without the extra shine that is happening on the second photo, you can see more of the detail of the statue. I also like the last one because the way the background stayed darker adds a more ominous feel to the photo. Nicely done.

  2. What a gorgeous statue! Posting more than the minimum is always a good thing, for it shows that you are enthusiastic and it helps you and the class understand the assignment better. The no flash photograph is absolutely gorgeous. This is called painting with light… When you keep your shutter open and then use a flashlight to "paint" the light onto the subject.

  3. I keep changing my mind, as to which one is my favorite. The last one is stunning, with a sense of mystery. It looks like the cover of a book I would really want to read. I would not have thought to use a flashlight in that way, what a great idea! The folds in the statue's robes create a playground for light and shadow.

  4. Great photos. I love how you threw in some background of your subject and the detail about how your camera stopped working. I am sure complete coincidence but spooky none the less! The picture taken at 5:30pm and the last photos are my favorite due to the way the sun hits her face in the 5:30 pic she looks pure whereas the last picture she looks more evil.

  5. #4 is a great photo. All of the darkness yet you can clearly see the statue. Very mysterious in my opinion

  6. I love the work you did on these, they came out really well. The second one is my favorite with the side lighting from the sun. Excellent work!

  7. Absolutely beautiful! I love how you captured the statue in the different light. Each view changes her personality.

  8. These are great! I think the differences between the first two are interesting because in the reading it described how overcast days tend to let the colors be more rich and this is a perfect example of that. My favorite photo is the dark one used without flash, especially with your story behind the statue. It gives it a spooky feeling.
